I grew up in a family storing butter in a fridge all the time, so I have been keeping butter in a fridge. After we moved to Canada, we started realizing that soft butter seems not so common. This reminds me of my husband saying his family kept butter on a kitchen counter.
He is right, I found a lot of websites saying you can keep salted butter at room temperature as long as you do in a right way.
- It should be salted butter.
- You can keep the butter for a few days. If you use a butter bell, it can keep for a month. However, the water inside of the butter bell needs to be changed every few days.
- ‘Room temperature’ seems meaning about at 70F=21C. So you want to be careful about the temperature of your kitchen in hot summer. Also keep the butter away from your oven, toaster or electric kettle.
-
Avoid cross contamination with utensils when you use the butter.
In fact many people are saying the butter at room temperature tastes better. Also it is so much easier to spread on bread and no longer need to buy soft butter!
I will look for a butter storage now…
